Have you ever wondered how to clean an item with products you already have on hand? I bet you didn’t know that lemon juice can clean brass, Coca-Cola can clean bloodstains from clothing, Spray and Wash can remove baked on grease and shaving cream can keep your windshield from fogging up!
Today we are going to focus on how to clean items related to Baby & Kids with everyday household products. Note that these ideas are just tips and hopefully you will find them to be helpful!
Use baking soda to deodorize baby bottles. Fill the bottle with warm water, add a teaspoon of baking soda and let sit for several hours. Rinse well and air dry.
To clean mineral deposits from bottles, add a tablespoon of lemon juice to the water when boiling the bottles.
To clean baseball gloves and keep the leather soft, rub the glove with Vaseline.
Crayon Marks on Fabric:
To remove crayon from a piece of fabric, place the stained material on top of a sheet of paper towel, cover the stain with a second sheet of paper towel and press the top sheet gently with a warm iron. The heat from the iron will melt the crayon wax and the paper towel absorbs it. Bounty paper towels work best for this.
You can also try spraying WD-40 on the stain, let it sit for 10 minutes, rub in some Dawn Dishwashing Liquid and launder in hot water.
Crayon Marks on Walls:
To clean crayon marks from walls, sprinkle baking soda on a damp sponge and rub gently.
You can also try regular flavor toothpaste on old toothbrush. Again, rub gently.
Spray and Wash also may work. Spray on crayon marks and let sit for a few minutes and then wipe gently with a damp sponge.
To clean ink from the face of a doll try spraying it with hairspray and blot with a soft, clean cloth.
You can also try rubbing butter on the face. Let it sit in the sun and then rinse well and dry with a soft, clean cloth.
Other products to try for removing ink from a dolls face – cuticle remover or vodka.
Make a paste from Adolph’s Meat Tenderizer. Cover the stain with this paste and some cool water. Let sit for about 20 minutes and try sponging the fabric gently.
You can also try wetting the fabric with water and rubbing in a few drops of dishwasher gel. Let sit overnight and then launder. This is for white clothing. Another product to try on white clothing is lemon juice. After applying the lemon juice let garment sit in the sun to bleach. Apply more lemon juice and then launder as usual.
Other things to try – Rinse stain with water and apply Clorox 2 (non chlorine) directly to the stain. Rub gently and let sit for a few minutes. Launder as usual.
To remove gum from hair, try spraying with Shout stain remover. Make sure you do not get it in your eyes! Work into hair and then shampoo and rinse.
You can also try rubbing a dollop of peanut butter in the hair and comb out. Then shampoo and rinse.
Other things to try – olive oil, Vaseline, or Dawn dishwashing liquid.
