Understanding The Amazon Subscribe And Save Program – Saving Your Family Time And Money!

The links in this post may be affiliate links. Read the disclosure here.

If you have been a reader of Steals and Deals for Kids for any time now, you will notice that in the last 6 months or so I have started incorporating Subscribe and Save deals on my site.  Some of you seem a little intimidated and have reached out to ask me exactly what the Subscribe & Save program is all about. I’m going to explain to you how it works and why you should be using it to help save yourself time and money.  Many of the deals that I post may be comparable to what you spend at Sams Club or at Costco, however with Subscribe and Save you can have many of these items delivered right to your door each month. I love this concept, especially when it is items that I know I am going to have to purchase anyway. Another feature that I love about S&S is that many items will go very low in price and when I sign up to purchase it I get it for that low price and it gives me a chance to try many products that I would not normally buy. I can then choose to unsubscribe from the product if I don’t like it or the price goes back up and I do not want to pay the new price for it. Unsubscribing is very easy (we will talk more about that later).

GETTING STARTED WITH SUBSCRIBE AND SAVE:

  1. Check out all of the products in the Subscribe and Save Store.  There are 28 departments to shop from including Household Products, Baby Care Items, Beauty and Personal Care Items, and more! Once you click on a department to shop from you can then define by low to high price to find the best deals. (or just follow my site because I try to post some of the best ones!) The items are always changing in the Subscribe and Save store, too so check back often.
  2. Once you decide on a particular item that you want to order you will choose the quantity you would like to receive as well as a delivery schedule.  You may opt to have the item delivered every month or you may choose every 2, 3, 4, 5 or up to 6 months. This can be changed at any time.  And if you have ordered an item (let’s say coffee) and you chose every month delivery, but you see that you don’t need another delivery this month, you can opt to skip a month.  It’s so easy to do!

3. You will then click “Subscribe Now” and then enter your payment information. Your payment will NOT be processed until your order ships.

SAVE MORE WITH 5 OR MORE SUBSCRIPTIONS:

Now here is where the savings really start to add up! All of your subscriptions will come the same time each month (you will choose when that is – mine ship around the 30th of each month). If you have less than 5 items being shipped to you, you will save 5%.  However, if you have 5 or more subscriptions being shipped each month you will save 15% on your entire order!

And guess what?  There are some really, really cheap Subscribe & Save items!  You can choose a few of those to get your subscriptions up to 5 and then enjoy that extra discount!  How do you find the cheap items?  Refine low to high price in the categories that you are interested in!  Some of my subscriptions only cost me a couple of dollars each month just so I have 5+ subscriptions!

For instance, you can add a Hand Soap for around 98¢ and have it as one of your five subscriptions!

WHAT IF THE ITEM SAYS “ADD-ON ITEM”?

Did you know that if an item says “add on” as long as you subscribe and save you do not have to have $25 in your cart to receive the low price?! Many Add-on items are eligible for the Subscribe and Save program. If you choose the Subscribe and Save option for these items, the $25 threshold does not apply. If you choose the one-time purchase option for these items, the $25 threshold applies.

SAVE EVEN MORE WITH COUPONS:

Amazon offers a ton of great coupons on select products each month and some of them are on Subscribe & Save items! You will see the digital coupon under the price when available.  Clip it and enjoy the extra savings! I always let you know when I post a deal if there is a coupon to clip.

PRIME MEMBER EXCLUSIVES:

All Subscribe and Save shipments include FREE SHIPPING. However, some of the deals and coupons offered are for Amazon Prime Members only (Amazon does let you know this and I usually try to let you know this in my post also).  So, as you can see being a Prime member does have many perks!  If you would like to sign up for a FREE 30 day trial, you can do that HERE.  Once your trial period ends, the cost is $10.99 per month or $99 for the year ($8.25 month).  I love my Prime membership and it is worth every dime that I have to pay for it!  In the long run it saves me a ton of time and money and that means everything to me!

HOW DO I MANAGE OR CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTIONS?

You will choose a delivery date for when you want all of your subscriptions to be delivered. Amazon will try to pack as many of your subscriptions as possible into as few boxes as possible.

If you need to change your delivery day, go into your Subscribe & Save account and click on “Change Schedule”.

These are the items that will be shipped to me on the 30th of this month.  I subscribe to other items also but I don’t have them delivered every month.  The Oil Diffuser, the Probiotic and the Eyeshadow were special promotions and really cheap.  They will probably go up in price so after I receive my order I will probably cancel future shipments of these items.

So let’s say I want to cancel the Oil Diffuser.  I go to my Accounts & Lists and look up “Your Subscribe & Save Items”. Once it takes me to that page I will click on the picture of the diffuser and it will take me to a page that looks like this:

You see that I now have the option to skip the next delivery, change the schedule of how often it is delivered, check my delivery history (if it is an item I have been receiving for a while), or Cancel My Subscription.  I will most likely cancel this subscription because I expect the price will go up and I obviously do not need a new oil diffuser every month!  It’s that easy, folks!  Really, really EASY!!

WHAT IF I FORGET ABOUT MY SUBSCRIPTIONS?

This is the question I get asked about the most!  Most people are worried that they are going to receive items that they no longer want and be charged for them.  But DON’T WORRY!! Amazon will send you an email a few days before they process your order and give you the chance to update your orders.  That means you can skip a monthly subscription or even cancel it if you no longer want to receive it!

WHAT IF THE PRICE GOES UP ON THE ITEM THAT I ORDERED?

If you order a product that was a really good deal (like through my site) you will be charged the price at the time you added it to your cart. You may have ordered it on the 5th and it may not ship until the 20th but you will receive the price quoted.  The price may change but you will receive the deal price.  BUT, once you receive the initial order you will be charged whatever the price is after that so you will want to keep an eye on the prices.  Many of the items I order (like toilet paper, foundation, etc. stay around the same price every month for me but I always check my subscriptions and the current prices when Amazon sends me that email to be sure).

YOU ARE CHARGED WHEN YOUR ORDER SHIPS

You will be charged for your items when your order ships.  I receive my shipment around the 30th of each month but my order is locked in and I can not make any more changes around the 23rd of the month.

WHY DO I LOVE SUBSCRIBE AND SAVE?

I love Amazon and Subscribe and Save because I love convenience!  I know that I need toilet paper every month so why not find the best S&S deal (maybe even pair it with a coupon) and have it delivered right to my door?  Subscribe and Save offers many great deals on products I love, need and use and I love that I don’t have to haul it all from the big mega store to my car and then into my house! Believe me, I still love those stores and will continue to shop at them but now I can concentrate on looking at all the organic fruits and veggies I want to get instead on running around to get that toilet paper, paper towels, etc.  They take up way too much space in my cart anyways!

  1. I love Amazon subscribe and save. I didn’t know about the add-on item not having to meet the minimum though. thank you for that info

  2. Now that you have broken it sounds I think it makes sense for items like laundry detergent and toilet paper. Things you know you use lots of.

  3. I use subscribe and save for the water filters for my cats bowl. I know that when I receive it, it’s time to change the filters. I like the program.

  4. I didn’t really know all the aspects of subscribe and save. So very informative. I especially like that email you each month prior to shipping to make sure that what you have on order is really what you want. Also, that 15% savings was something I didn’t know about or the coupons. WOW!

I had never heard of this program before but it would be great for our family! Going to check it out!

  6. I have always been nervous about Subscribe and Save. I’m glad you laid it all out! I shop at Costco a lot, so if I can get the same thing delivered to my door I need to check it out.

  7. I love Subscribe & Save! I use it quite a lot on all different websites to stock up on the things we use a lot. It saves me lots of money 🙂
